Miami / Florida Marlins Caps History

The expansion Florida Marlins begin play in 1993.

1992 Retail

Sports Specialties

The Marlins start off using Sports Specialties caps. When MLB logos were first added to caps, Sports Specialties glued them onto the LEFT SIDE of caps in 1992. Thus we know the cap below was made in 1992 before the team began play. In 1993, the MLB logo was embroidered on the back of caps.

Home caps are teal, road caps teal with a black visor, and a black cap is the alternate.

New Era

New Era caps were likely used in 1993. New Era won the exclusive license for all MLB caps beginning in 1994.

The tags indicate this was made mid-1992.

During 1995 the black cap starts to take over as the home cap.

1996-2006

At the end of the 1995 season both teal caps are retired leaving only the black cap.

Raised embroidery appears in 1996.
